Mineral Wells, Texas is the largest town in Palo Pinto County and is located some forty two miles to the west of Ft. Worth. The population of some 6,000 just prior to WW II jumped to over 12,000 during the war with the opening of Camp Wolters and hovers slightly over 14,000 today. [est. population was 17,065 in July, 2006] Prior to the war, Mineral Wells had achieved some renown as a health resort and boasted two first class hotels, in the Baker and Crazy.
The Harris farm was located in the Staggs Prarie area a few miles to the north and east of Mineral Wells.
